The MGW-1250 secure WLAN gateway is designed for remote offices and retail locations that require a turnkey WLAN networking solution. It integrates Colubris’ industry leading 802.11 a/b/g access point technology with powerful VPN encryption and IP network services within a single, centrally-managed enclosure. Its scalable design and enterprise-class security features make it ideal for large, broadly distributed remote office networks.

The MGW-1250 features a full range of layer 3 VPN security mechanisms that enables WLAN clients to use VPN security to protect their wireless communication while integrating the traffic into an existing enterprise VPN infrastructure. An embedded VPN server with hardware-assisted IPSec encryption provides full bandwidth performance for up to 50 WLAN client tunnels per access point. The server interoperates with popular third-party VPN clients, enabling nomadic employees to use existing remote networking software for wireless network access.

The MGW-1250 can aggregate client traffic into a single tunnel that connects to a remote VPN server for simplicity and improved network efficiency. This provides consistent end-to-end VPN security with enterprise-class scalability. Alternatively, each client tunnel may be forwarded to a VPN server located elsewhere in the network.

An embedded IP router and stateful firewall enable the MGW-1250 to connect directly to a widearea network via a DSL or cable modem. The router provides NAT and DHCP services, and the stateful firewall protects client devices from attacks launched via the WAN. Combined with the MGW-1250’s VPN features, the platform provides comprehensive enterprise-class wired and wireless security and enables low-cost Internet service to be used for remote site-to-corporate headquarters connectivity.

The MGW-1250 features Virtual Service Communities that enable a single WLAN infrastructure to support as many as sixteen separate security and QoS policies. It enables deployment of diverse services such as open guest access, secure corporate data and voice through a single, centrally managed WLAN infrastructure. It also facilitates smooth migration from WEP security to WPA and 802.11i. This industry-leading capability reduces cost and complexity, while protecting investments in earlier generation WLAN technologies and applications.

The MGW-1250 features a software selectable a/b/g radio, plenum-rated packaging, support for 802.11i AES encryption (WPA-2), and integrated Power over Ethernet support.

The MGW-1250 is designed for easy remote management and operation. Its embedded web GUI provides an easily navigated interface to all configuration and troubleshooting tools. Support for SNMP enables the MGW-1250 to be monitored from an enterprise network management system. Configuration and firmware updates can be easily applied using secure file download interfaces.

The MGW-1250 is part of the Colubris Intelligent MultiService System and can be centrally managed by the inCharge CNMS. Using CNMS, the MGW-1250 can be automatically discovered and configured for ease of deployment. The management system also provides comprehensive infrastructure and client device monitoring, powerful troubleshooting tools, and sophisticated rogue AP detection.
