Overview
The Colubris Networks MGW-3500 is a high capacity multiservice gateway purposebuilt for hotspot and guest networking applications. Its flexible feature set enables service providers and enterprises to build highly scalable networks that deliver a rich set of Internet access services.
The MGW-3500 enforces subscriber service policies, reports per-user activity information to a central billing system, and performs a range of critical networking functions that enable users to seamlessly access the Internet. It adapts to a client PC’s default network settings and authenticates the subscriber using a secure web interface. Access to network resources can be controlled based on subscriber profiles stored locally or in a central RADIUS server. The MGW-3500 provides location information that enable access policies to be customized per hotspot.
The MGW-3500 can leverage a switched VLAN infrastructure to deliver multiple network services. It segregates traffic associated with each service on a separate VLAN, which connects with associated InReach MAPs. Services can be customized by mapping the traffic to unique AAA servers, captive portals and DHCP servers. Bandwidth management features enable the network operator to limit bandwidth per user, or per service.
The MGW-3500 integrates a stateful firewall and IP router, enabling it to support a range of network architectures. Adaptive NAT™ enables the MGW-3500 to deliver seamless support for session-oriented subscriber applications, such as VPN clients. GRE tunnels can be used to centralize allocation of IP addresses even when the hotspot is connected by a third-party network. The firewall protects the MGW-3500’s Internet connection from intruders, and an integrated VPN client secures all authentication and management traffic between the hotspot and NOC.
The MGW-3500 is part of a complete WLAN system from Colubris Networks. It may be used in conjunction with Colubris Networks MultiService Access Points and the Colubris Network Management System, which provides centralized configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting support for an entire multi-site hotspot network.
