Overview
InMotion™ MultiService Controllers (MSC) are the central nervous system in the Colubris Intelligent MultiService System, controlling the operation of intelligent access points distributed throughout a wireless zone, building or campus. InMotion MSCs deliver a range of Colubris Value Services to wireless client devices and ensure consistent quality and security as clients roam throughout the network. InMotion MSCs create a distributed WLAN/LAN switching infrastructure that delivers unprecedented WLAN scalability and efficiency. InMotion MSCs compose the control plane in a Colubris TriPlane™ Architecture, centrally controlling a network of hundreds of multiservice access points per MSC. The architecture is ideally suited to new generation applications, including VoIP over WLAN and fixed mobile convergence, because it maintains end-to-end QoS on a per packet basis.
The Colubris Operating System embedded in all InMotion MSCs works with other CIMS components to create Virtual Service Communities—discrete groups of network users with assigned service policies. The Colubris Operating System provides VSC users with access to one or more applications that share a common set of QoS and security policies. Once installed, InMotion MSCs can be easily upgraded via software to take advantage of new Colubris Operating System features that enhance mobility and create new services.
Using the modularity built into CIMS, multiple InMotion 5000 controllers may be deployed within a single network, each controlling a group of MAPs in a zone or remote site. The InMotion family features full IP routing and network services that enable it to connect directly to a cable or DSL modem and provide a turn-key remote site networking solution. The InCharge™ Network Management System (NMS), a separate server-based platform, maintains the simplicity of a single central management interface as networks grow to encompass thousands of MAPs and MSCs.
