Check your RJ-45 outlet for power using the PowerDsine PoE Tester

The Power over Ethernet (PoE) Tester, connected to an RJ-45 outlet, tests the cabling infrastructure for the presence of power, either IEEE802.3af standard-compliant or pre-standard. The PoE Tester identifies the existence and type of Power Sourcing Equipment (either Endspan or Midspan) in your network.

System Description A PoE system comprises a PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment)and a PD (Powered Device). The PSE may either be an End-span (i.e. a layer 2 Ethernet Switch with integrated PoE) or a mid-span, while the PD is a PoE-enabled terminal, such as IP phone, Wireless LAN access pointand Network Security Camera. The PoE Tester check your RJ-45 outlet for power and identify its source, Midspan or Endspan, i.e. IEEE 802.3af standard compliantMidspans/Switches and Cisco pre-standard Proprietary In-line Switches.
How to use the PoE Tester: Connect a standard category 5 cable with RJ-45 connectors to the PoE tester and the RJ-45 outlet (See diagram). Check the LED indicators on the front panel for power and source (PoE switch,Midspan or High Power Midspan). LED Status Indication Midspan Switch Off Off Power is not detected in the RJ-45 outlet Midspan Switch Blue Off Power is detected in the RJ-45 outlet. It is originated from a standard 802.3af Midspan* * Few PoE switches are designed to transmit power on the spare pairs, in these cases, the Midspan LED will be illuminated Midspan Switch Off Blue Power is detected in the RJ-45 outlet. It is originated from a standard 802.3af Switch. Midspan Switch Off Blinking Blue (every 7-9 Sec) Power is detected in the RJ-45 outlet. It is originated from a Cisco Non-Standard Switch. Midspan Switch Blue Blue Power is detected in the RJ-45 outlet. It is originated from a PowerDsine High Power Midspan.
